UPDATED: Three fire appliances from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are in attendance at a property in Newport this morning (Monday).
Fire crews are on scene at an address on Vicarage Walk near Hunnyhill after a neighbour raised the alarm at around 01:00 having smelt burning. The good samaritan also spotted smoke through the letterbox.
The cause of the incident is currently unknown but is thought the male occupant of the property has fallen asleep.
Police are on scene.
UPDATE – A pizza left unattended in the oven has been blamed for the alert.
The intoxicated male fell asleep whilst cooking, resulting in smoke filling the ground floor.
Firefighters smashed a window to gain access to the property, which they then ventilated.
No one has been injured in the incident which has now been brought to a close.
