A 26-year-old woman who decided to drive home whilst drunk after she couldn’t find a taxi to take her home has been handed a 25-month driving ban.
Kinga Kazmierczak, 26, of Starks Close in Shorwell pleaded guilty to drink driving when she appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier this week (Tuesday 15th August).
Lauren Stone, prosecuting, told the court that on the evening of 30th July, Police noticed Kazmierczak driving her Mitsibushi along Carisbrooke Road in Newport. She was swerving in the road, driving slowly and breaking regularly.
On pulling the vehicle over, officers noticed that the 26-year-old was swaying from side to side and her speech slurred.
A roadside breath test returned a positive reading before a further test – conducted at Newport Police Station – returned a reading of 103. The legal limit is 35.
Defending, Barry Arnett said that the 26-year-old hadn’t intended to drive home but after being unable to find a taxi at Cowes Week, she decided to drive home slowly believing she would be fine. It was in fact the slow speed at which she was travelling that alerted Police to her vehicle.
Magistrates handed Kinga a 25-month driving ban. She was also handed a 12-month community order with 120 hours of unpaid work attached. She was ordered to pay costs of £85 and £114 surcharge fee.

Corrrr your posh mummy won’t be happy….
and I bet your mum is just as happy with how you’ve turned out commenting things like this!
When will drink driving Stop on the Island!
Everyday there seems to be an Idiot drink driving
putting others at risk.
Drink drivers should be locked up immediately – No feeble excuses.
First class idiot-works for NHS says it all
Why is there defence? How can you defend idiots who willingly defy the law.
It’s almost like you don’t under stand the point of law!!! Maybe go to university to learn law and then you can judge 🙂
We need to get DUIs off the road – but also increase number of viable transport options, and no, costly taxis are not viable – paying £30 every other day is not sensible.
For example in Newport it’s ridiculous that ending night as early as 9:30pm on the weekday (sic!) you suddenly can have 30-40+ minutes waiting for a bus home.
This makes me think twice before heading to Newport for any social events after work. And then you end up with no people in productive age spending their money on the high street.
And no, I don’t even drink, I just can’t drive due to my eyesight but even those of my friends from Cowes who drive pretty much shun any Newport socials as they wouldn’t be able to have even a smallest beer and commute comfortably.
I’m 40 years old and I remember in my youth I got up to some questionable shenanigans! I don’t think anyone should have a right to judge a person by one mistake. This is a learning experience for this young lady and I’m sure she won’t do it again!! All these people posting vile comments about this woman need to take a step back and think about questionable things they have also done! Judge yourself before you judge others!!!
The Isle of wight needs better transport it seems
The Isle of Wight needs better transport options, the lack of them is pushing people to do silly things
Better services for getting young ladies home safely after a night out would be good. You’d all be slagging her off if she decided to walk and got mugged or run over… What exactly was she supposed to do? Sleep on a bench? Phone the police for a lift home? Island Taxi driver’s are all in bed by midnight…
Scumbag just like yourself
Yea I agree with you young girls need to get home safe and watch out for dirty old farts
