A driver is understood to have fled the scene of a single vehicle collision near Freshwater during the early hours of this morning (Sunday) after a vehicle collided with a telegraph pole.
Three appliances from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, Police and Ambulance crews were called to the A3055 Afton Road near Freshwater at around 02:30, following 999 calls reporting that a vehicle had ended up on its roof after colliding with a pole.
Firefighters from Newport, Yarmouth and Freshwater were sent to the scene after it was feared at least one person was trapped in the wreckage, however upon the arrival of paramedics it was made clear that the unknown driver of the car had left the scene, prompting a search by Police to locate the person in question.
One person has since been detained according to Hampshire Constabulary.
Thankfully, no other vehicles were involved in the incident.
Diversions were in place for a short time whilst the scene was investigated and the vehicle was recovered.
