A 37ft yacht suffering from engine failure has been successfully towed to safety by Ryde Rescue this evening (Wednesday).
The crew of ‘Thunder Flash’ issued a Pan Pan alert at around 16:05 when the vessel lost engine power and started drifting into the Solent’s shipping channel off Fishbourne.
With no wind to sail into a port of safety and with darkness falling, Ryde Inshore Rescue were requested to launch to assist the casualty vessel and the 6 persons on board at 16:15.
The independent lifeboat crew reached the yacht by 16:45 and established a tow to Cowes, arriving less than an hour later.
Ryde Rescue 1 has since returned to station.
