Gather your crew and make some waves for Wessex Cancer Support this Summer by entering a team into the charity’s first ever Dragon Boat Race.
The new fundraising event will take place at Island Harbour on Saturday 30th August, with teams competing in heats for a spot in the grand final.
Laura Haytack, Wessex Cancer Support’s Fundraising Manager for the Isle of Wight, says:
“We’re really excited to bring dragon boat racing to the Island for an unforgettable day on and off the water.
“Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a complete beginner, this high-energy challenge is perfect for everyone.
“It’s an ideal event for corporates or groups of friends and family, so get your team together and bring on the fun.
“We’re also planning an after-party, so it promises to be a brilliant afternoon and evening.”
Teams of 11 – 10 rowers and 1 drummer – are needed in each boat, with team entry costing £330 (£30 per crew member) and a fundraising target of £1,100 (£100 each).
Rouse, WH Brading and Biscoes Solicitors have sponsored the event, with the latter 2 already entering teams, alongside Solent Cruises and Robin Hill.
Tenna Hibberd, Financial Director at WH Brading, says:
“We’re thrilled to lend our support to this event.
“It’s a perfect team-building day out for a company like ours and everyone is really excited to get on the water.
“We like to give back and Wessex Cancer Support does really important work on the Island, so this gives us chance to do our bit to help and have great fun at the same time.”
