UPDATED: Firefighters are attending a house fire at a property in Oakfield, Ryde this morning (Wednesday), where 4 dogs have been rescued.
Two appliances from Ryde are currently in attendance at Reed Street and crews are using breathing apparatus, main jets and hose reels to enter the property and tackle the fire.
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to smoke billowing from the ground floor at just before 10:00.
The dogs, who were inside the property when the fire broke out, have been given oxygen. They are all safe and in good spirits.
UPDATE @ 10:35 – The fire has been contained and extinguished.
Crews are using Positive Pressure Ventilation to clear the building of smoke.
The RSPCA have been called to check over the 4 dogs, who are currently being cared for by FF Smith. In addition, a parrot and a snake have been involved, however thankfully they are also said to be unharmed.
No one has been injured.
UPDATE @ 10:50 – It has been confirmed to Island Echo that the fire started in the kitchen on the ground floor, however the cause is currently unknown. Investigations are underway.
Although the family home has been affected by smoke damage, it is said to be minimal.
A vet has been requested to attend the incident by the RSPCA to conduct a once over on the animals.
Crews are now standing down and returning to station.Cr
UPDATE @ 12:25 – The vet has given all the animals a good bill of health.
The British Red Cross Emergency and Fire Support vehicle is on scene supporting the homeowners.
