DIVERSION ROUTE CLOSURE DUE TO BURST WATER MAIN

southernwaterbreakingUPDATED: The diversion route around ongoing works at Arreton has been partially closed this morning (Thursday) due to a burst water main.

Ventnor Road/Canteen Road, which runs between Apse Heath and Whitely Bank, will be closed between Princelett Shute and Little Princelett Shute until approximately 16:00 today for emergency water main repair works by Clancy Docwra for Southern Water.

Contractors are hoping that the road can be re-opened this afternoon, especially as the road is being used as one of the diversion routes for the A3036 Arreton Street road closure.

It will be confirmed if this is possible early this afternoon when the full extent of the repair works are known.

Southern Vectis buses have been effected by the closure, meaning all Route 8 buses will operate from their current diversion at Whiteley Bank via A3020 to Shanklin, Victoria Avenue, Shanklin High Street, North Road, Arthurs Hill and Sandown Road to rejoin the normal journey at Lake shops.

The Arreton shuttle Route 8 will operate from Robin Hill direct to Newport via Blackwater and will not serve Merstone Lane through to Hazely Combe.

UPDATE – The road has now reopened according to Docklands Traffic Management.
