Concerns that a yacht may have been in trouble in the vicinity of Newtown Creek led to a painstaking search by Cowes RNLI lifeboat last night (Tuesday). The emergency was sparked by a report of what appeared to be a light from a vessel in the creek which suddenly went out. As the request of Solent Coastguard, the lifeboat launched at 23:15 and, after battling through rough seas in the Western Solent, went on to carry out a thorough search of the creek. Coastguard Rescue Officers from The Needles were also tasked to the incident. Nothing of concern was found. The incident was concluded by 01:00.
