Graham Hyslop, a wheelchair user who was spat on and kicked before having his bank card stolen, has tragically died just 9 days after the alleged attack in Sandown.
The 55-year-old, who sustained injuries to his head and arms in the shocking incident, passed away yesterday morning (Sunday), his grieving family have confirmed.
As previously reported by Island Echo, it was last Thursday (26th February) that Police launched an appeal for witnesses following the alleged attack on Leed Street a week earlier (19th February). It’s said to have occurred between 12:45 and 12:50.
It was alleged that Graham was knocked from his wheelchair, spat on and kicked. His bank card was also taken during the shocking incident.
When issuing their appeal, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed that the 55-year-old was recovering at home after a short stay at St Mary’s Hospital. But it has now been confirmed that Graham sadly passed away yesterday.
Police were called at 12:49 to concerns for the welfare of a man who had been found unresponsive at an address on Leed Street.
Officers attended and established that a 55-year-old man from Sandown had died.
His death is being treated as unexplained, but is not currently thought to be suspicious, and remains under investigation.
A file is being prepared for the Coroner.
At this stage, it is understood the death is not being linked to the assault last month.
As previously reported, a 15-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy, both from Sandown, were arrested on suspicion of robbery, while a 14-year-old boy from Ryde was arrested on suspicion of robbery and possession of an offensive weapon.
A GoFundMe has been set up as Graham’s family looks to cover the costs of an unexpected funeral.
A message on the page says:
“Unfortunately he didn’t have a funeral plan and we need to raise funds for his funeral so he can be sent off in a dignified manner and his children and family can say goodbye properly.”
So far more than £1,400 has been raised.

not linked?????? i cant help but feel like that cannot be true
Agree
Exactly
NOT being linked to the assault?? WHAT????
That’s manslaughter right there if a person dies within 6 months of a serious assault.
Is this because the police only charged the little gits with robbery perhaps?
Police useless know scum won’t get done.. so won’t bother..
So potential man slaughter then hope all families involved are happy with the shit they brought up.Fuck all will happen to the shit as their age will be a factor..nice for the family left.
Very sad news.
The island is in desperate need of CCTV.
I can remember when you could walk the
streets on the island safely and could leave your
doors unlocked.
How times have sadly changed.
Me thinks it time to move off the island and
move to a much nicer safer place, things
are getting worse on the island and they
aren’t getting any better.
UK / mainland now an absolute shit hole scum, illegal invaders people are vile no morals no empathy want, take, won’t work, thick stupid.Island got problems but it’s a lot nicer here.Just need to rid the filth we have.
The numpties carrying out crimes in UK/IW
are home grown numpties, not migrants
that’s the worrying thing!
Your probably right, and grief and emotional distress, probably contributed to the poor mans demise.
Bye!
Where are you going!
Lol
If you think it is any different on the mainland, your very mistaken. It is getting worse everywhere. The police do not want to know, that is if you can ever find them.
There are many beautiful safe villages in Devon and
Cornwall.
The island once was a safe place, sadly no longer.
Where? The mainland has rapes every hour in some parts and stabbings daily, it’s only going to get worse, not reported in MSM of course, vote for Restore Britain, get Rupert Lowe in no.10 asap
Rupert Lowe is the countries only hope, Reform
will destroy what’s left of the country.
If you genuinely feel the island isn’t safe anymore, that’s your choice but repeating it under every article doesn’t make it fact. No place is crime free, and one tragic case doesn’t erase the reality that most people here live safely every day.
If somewhere else feels safer to you, then go where you’ll be happier. Constantly declaring decline helps no one.
CCTV a waste of time. My grandson and his friend, both aged 11, were physically assaulted, abd injured by a grown man outside Ryde police station. The incident was captured on the police station cctv, and was said to be as clear as daylight. Later the attacker was let off with a caution as the cctv footage wasn’t clear enough, even though the perpetrator admitted the assault.
How absolutely dreadful. I fear this country is out of control and finished. Rest in peace poor gentleman
Lunchtime on the Isle of Wight, not a good advertisement
for tourism.
I know we can’t name these future fathers! due to their age, but surely we can get their parents to compensate somehow?
Unless these kids are deterred at an early age, they have a life of criminality to look forward to. Particularly, as one was even carrying an offensive weapon.
Hopefully, they will get charged for manslaughter if the evidence is there, and they can then enjoy time in a nice comfy cell for several years.
No doubt at our bloody expense. They need to rid the world of this scum.
We need discipline like Saudi.
Wrong’uns shouldn’t be allowed to breed.
He was kicked in the head!!! The head FFS how can there not be a link?don’t treat Joe public as Mushrooms Hampshire police “stick in dark room and cover with s..t”those days are long sinc CPAs and if these mini gangster Wannabees are responsible charge them!!before it really does get ugly
Chavs and smack heads everywhere here
I hope the boys parents are extremely proud of them and how they have brought them up. Regardless of age, now because of the tragic circumstances of this incident, these boys should be named and get charged with manslaughter. It stated that the poor man had a head injury as a result of the attack. This has made my blood boil that these boys think this was acceptable behaviour, and I feel so sick for the poor man that passed away, and his family that are now left without a Son, Brother etc. I hope the family get some answers and justice. Thinking of all the family at this very difficullt time
