His bank card was also taken during this incident, which occurred on Leed Street.
The man attended hospital for treatment to his injuries and is now recovering at home.
3 teenagers have been arrested in connection with the attack, Police have confirmed.
A 15-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy, both from Sandown, have been arrested on suspicion of robbery. A 14-year-old boy from Ryde has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and possession of an offensive weapon.
The trio have all been released under investigation whilst enquiries continue.
If you were in the area at the time and believe you witnessed something that may support the investigation, call Police on 101 and quote 44260084115.

Unfortunately no parental guidance or control leads to scum children who almost certainly will end up in prison as the years progress. These particular pieces of crap have been out of control a long time.
Yes, and when or if this gets to court, they will get off after spouting some sob story or other.
Time to bring the Borstals back methinks
The BIRCH. The scum will not like it or come back for a second dose. I hope that the man in the wheelchair is recovering.
Scum breeds scum who go on to raise their own brood of worthless, dangerous pieces of rubbish. Good kids exist where good parents do, are they perfect? Absolutely not, we all remember playing knock a door run and being a menace at times, but never a danger to anyone or their well-being.
My kids never caused me trouble, my grand-kids are decent too. We’ve always brought them up right, even if they can be pains in the backsides at time, they always have been respectful and kind.
Parents are too blame, they should
keep their children indoors if they cannot
be controlled.
Try to keep this scum in and they would most likely beat up their parents. BIRCH them every time.
So true, you only have to look at ones parents and
9 times out of 10 you get your answer.
More proof Sandown is a sh*thole
Such people need locking up
should be sent to a young offenders institute
Letting them go is putting other people at risk.
Makes one wonder what their parents are like.
TIME TO CUTS THEIR BENEFITS
We need to bring back National service
They should have been locked up while under investigation, a night or two without ‘ mummy’ may have done them some good !!
Robbery, but not aggravated assault? Why? Each carries a penalty between 4 months and two years?
Could it be that crimes against property still carry more weight than crimes against the person in spite of the fact that the latter often has more severe lasting effects on the victim than simply monetary loss. Sends an insidious value message.
You really have to realise that these pieces of human filth are really hard men who only pick on the disabled and elderly who cannot fight back. With any luck in the future they might pick on a retired Para or (Bootneck), Royal Marine That would be instant justice, no messing.
All filth scum little pathetic never work benefits pieces of shit should have a beating see if they like it.
Send them to a young offenders institution
Shame the guy didn’t have a lump of 4X2 hidden under his coat, and gave them all a lumping with it. Who would have been nicked as the criminal though? Do gooders and hang wringers will be protecting these little toxic shits with their ”Because of their age bollocks” once again
You’ve obviously never tried to swing a piece of 4×2, Cock Robin. Unless you’ve got hands on a par with Micky Mouse, 2×2 is the go-to size.
To attack a vulnerable person in a wheel chair is
UNFORGIVABLE.
I would bang them up for 10 years Minimum.
In the old days, people were hung for stealing
a loaf of bread.
Sadly, those days are gone.
Must not hurt mummy’s little darlings.
Stop hiding them behind their ages if they are”brave”?enough to pick on a man in a wheelchair they should be brave enough to be named! And see what ordinary people really think of these spineless wonders.
Almost unbelievable, as others have noted, no doubt another generation from similar parents, who will back them up instead of a proper bollocking.
It was a sad day when teachers and coppers can’t give these little c###s a clip round the ear, then drag them home for justice from Dad.
Maybe some of their neighbours will get together and meet up with them one evening?
