Detectives are working to ascertain how a man in his 50s sustained a serious and potentially life-threatening head injury in Ryde overnight.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were dispatched to an address on St Michael’s Avenue, Haylands during the early hours of this morning (Thursday) where a male was located with serious head injuries.
He was rushed to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport where he was stabilised before being transferred to Southampton General Hospital in a potentially life-threatening condition.
The Coastguard Rescue Helicopter landed at Seaclose Park at around 06:00, rushing the male to the mainland.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary says it is conducting enquiries to establish the full circumstances around how the man came to be injured.
Officers have been conducting door-to-door enquiries in the area this morning, with detectives examining the potential crime scene.
No arrests have been made at this time.
