Luke Stubbs, the Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, has resigned from the role over backlash received from controversial comments he made about gender equality.
Mr Stubbs, who was appointed as Donna Jones’ deputy in June 2021 on a salary of £65,000, claimed at a fire service meeting in December that equality goals ‘only benefit women and minorities’. As a result, official complaints were lodged.
Now, as a sub-committee has ruled him to be in breach of conduct. He has resigned as a result.
Councillor John Beavis MBE, who sits on the police and crime panel complaints sub-committee, has said:
“We did consider that Mr Stubbs was in breach of the code of conduct, regarding the complaints that have been made against him.
“He does like to speak his mind but if you are representing the police and crime commissioner at a meeting, then you represent her policies. Instead, we found that he used the platform to express his personal views.
“It may well be that he has been given this information and decided he perhaps isn’t in the right role”.
At the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service authority meeting back in December, Luke Stubbs said:
“Government – and I think this is wrong – is bringing in quota programmes across the public sector, but only where it benefits women and minorities.
“In areas where it’s mostly men it has to be 50/50, but in areas where it’s mostly women there’s no change.
“Things like the control room have 84 per cent women and I would like assurance that steps are being taken to reduce that”.

Interestingly, he did not make any comment about women, offensive or otherwise. His comments were about the policies that claim to promote equality but do not.

if the hand wringing do gooders are demanding more female representation in what have historically been male jobs, then it is only right that they campaign for more men in those areas, that have been historically female roles.

In the USA the ‘woke’ brigade have caused chaos, defunding the police, sacking teachers for comments made 20 years ago, BUT… things are changing and society is pushing back, stopping the silly season. The prevention of any kind of free speech (unless it fills some ridiculous agenda) is both dangerous and subversive and in this case I suspect this guy has been another victim of ‘trial by Social Justice Warriors’ who are the bane of any society.
Indeed, those responsible for these “complaints” should be named, im sure it would be the same handful of individuals for anything and everything that is not within their nasty, narrow outlook on the world.
