A deep fat fryer fire at the Merrie Gardens pub in Lake has seen a response from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service this lunchtime (Wednesday).
4 appliances from Sandown, Newport and Ryde – and an aerial ladder platform from Ryde – were mobilised to the Marston’s owned public house at around 11:40.
However, firefighters arrived on scene to find that the situation has already been brought under control thanks to the quick-thinking of staff.
It’s been confirmed to Island Echo that the fire originated from a deep fat fryer unit within the kitchen area.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service is now standing down from the incident.
The pub, which has been evacuated, is expected to re-open later today.
