Home Office pathologists have confirmed that remains found on the beach in Bembridge yesterday evening (Saturday) belonged to an animal, despite initial fears from Police and the public that a human leg had been discovered. As first reported by Island Echo, a dog walker made the gruesome discovery near to Bembridge Coast Hotel early on Saturday evening. They took to social media to warn others, initially believing that their dog had rolled in a ‘enormous meat joint’.
But it soon became clear that the photographed object could, in fact, be a human leg. This led to a Police response to the scene, with cordons erected on the beach. At this point, first responders believed they had discovered human remains but Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary was last night unable to officially confirm whether or not the discovery was that of human remains. 
However, by the early hours of this morning, the pendulum had swung following further examination. It was then thought that the object did not belong to a human being.

The object was recovered and examined by a Home Office pathologist today, who has now been able to confirm that the object belonged to an animal. Police have concluded their investigation.
