Police are trying to locate 2 cyclists who made commendable efforts to save a man’s life on the cycle path in Alverstone earlier this month. As previously reported by Island Echo, emergency services were called to the Sunshine Trial in rural Alverstone at just gone 14:00 on 1st February. A 25-year-old man – named locally as Cody Hills – had fallen into the river beside the Sandown to Newport cycle path. Sadly, despite the best efforts of emergency services and members of the public, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say they do not suspect there to be any third-party involvement in Cody’s death at this time. However, enquiries into the incident continue and officers would like to speak to 2 cyclists – a male and a female – who made commendable efforts to save the man’s life.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary says that the force has been unable to identify these 2 people. If you were one of the cyclists, or you know who they are, get in touch with Police by calling 101, quoting 44240046968. You can also submit information online at https://www.hampshire.police.uk/tua/tell-us-about/cor/tell-us-about-existing-case-report/. Mr Hills’ family has been informed about his unexpected death and a file is being prepared for the coroner. He has been described as a kind, loving and gentle giant – a perfect son, brother and daddy who will be missed by all that knew him.
