Cries for help heard coming from the sea off Gurnard prompted a response from Cowes RNLI and The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team earlier this evening (Thursday).
At just gone 17:30 Solent Coastguard requested the launch of Cowes lifeboat to reports of at least 1 person calling for help.
It quickly emerged that the call for assistance had come from a windsurfer who made it back to the shore safely.
Officers from The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team met with the casualty at Gurnard and Cowes RNLI were stood down.
