Cricketing royalty will descend on the Isle of Wight next week as the famous Lashings World XI return to Ventnor’s Steephill ground after a 9-year absence.
The special T20 showdown – dubbed the highlight of Ventnor Cricket Club’s 175th anniversary celebrations – will take place on Friday 15th August, with first ball at 15:30. Gates open from 1pm, with a licensed bar and refreshments available throughout the day.
Admission is just £5 for adults, with free entry for under-16s when accompanied by a paying adult.
The Lashings side – often referred to as the Harlem Globetrotters of world cricket – will field a star-studded international line-up, including former greats and crowd favourites such as:
-
Courtney Walsh, Stafanie Taylor, Kirk Edwards (West Indies)
-
Owais Shah, John Emburey, Chris Schofield, Martin Bicknell (England)
-
Nicky Boje (South Africa), Yasir Arafat (Pakistan), Mohammad Ashraful (Bangladesh)
-
Plus Sir Gordon Greenidge in an ambassadorial role, and Henry Blofeld on commentary duties
The return of Lashings to the Island promises an afternoon of entertainment, nostalgia, and cricketing flair – with plenty of opportunity to meet the stars, grab autographs, and enjoy the vibrant festival atmosphere.
