Bank holiday travel plans have been disrupted after Wightlink cancelled several crossings on its Yarmouth to Lymington route owing to ‘unexpected crew sickness’.
The cross-Solent operator confirmed a number of last-minute cancellations just after midday.
In disruption to those heading to and from the Island, the 18:00 and 20:00 sailings from Lymington, along with the 19:05 and 21:05 crossings from Yarmouth, have been cancelled.
A Wightlink spokesperson has said:
“All booked customers have been contacted and moved onto alternative sailings, where possible”.
Services on other cross-Solent routes are running to timetable, currently.

they all down the beach
To be honest wightlink, we’re all getting sick of you also.
Really ,unexpected sickness, nothing to do with the best weather of the year and it being a bank holiday.
Funny that… crew sickness on a boiling hot Bank Holiday!! Hope those crew get the sack…
Always a lot of unexpected sickness when the weather is hot and beautiful….Just saying
Abolish sick pay is the best cure for shirkers.
What a poor way to run a business.
Time for a bridge or Tunnel.
Wightlink couldn’t run a bath yet alone a ferry!
Come on Quigley sort out the ferries, they are an
embarrassment!
It is inconceivable that no margin for sudden staff loss is factored into to Wightlink’s business management, especialy on a Bank Holiday and half term.
If my staff went sick on a hot, sunny Bank Holiday weekend, I’d be round to their home to check they were at home, looking ill and not on the beach or barbecuing in the back garden.
What an excellent and trustworthy relationship you must have with “your staff”!
They would reap what they sow.
Shame you don’t run the NHS
Biggest benefit club in the country
Sick pay is rife, majority of them are on full pay
whilst shirking from home.
They should have staff on call to cover for such situations.
Cancelling sailings due to poor planning, especially on a bank holiday should come with consequences.
Particularly with the price of tickets nowadays.
Employ foreign reliable staff, job done.
Just goes to to show what a shit show of a company they really are.Staff sickness my arse.Probably not enough people on those crossings so cancel them and give the crew an early finish as it’s BH.
Get the tunnel sorted!!!
Excuse after excuse from Wightlink.
More dissapointed people having their day away ruined.
