UPDATED WITH VIDEO: Emergency services are attending a road traffic collision on Medina Way in Newport tonight (Thursday) following a Police pursuit.
The incident has occurred near the B&Q exit of the roundabout at the start of the southbound dual carriageway. The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are in attendance.
Police are understood to have been pursuing the vehicle prior to the crash. 1 person has been arrested at the scene.
Medina Way (southbound) has been closed.
UPDATE @ 21:45 – A video, exclusively obtained by Island Echo, shows Police pursuing the vehicle on the industrial estate prior to the crash.
UPDATE FRIDAY – Police have confirmed that a 28-year-old man from Ryde and a 19-year-old man have both been arrested and remain in custody following last night’s incident.
It has been confirmed that the car involved in the collision was a blue Nissan Almera – believed to be the same vehicle seen driving dangerously in the Lane End area of Bembridge earlier in the evening. It is said 2 crates of beer were stolen from the Co-Operative store.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“The 28 year old man was arrested on suspicion of driving offences including failing to stop when requested by an officer.
“The 19 year old man was arrested on suspicion of theft from a shop and criminal damage. Both remain in custody at the current time.”
