UPDATED: Emergency services are attending a road traffic collision in Wroxall this afternoon (Thursday) which has resulted in the road becoming blocked in both directions.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and Police are on scene at St John’s Road near the junction with Appuldurcombe Road where a black Citroen Saxo and a red Honda Civic have collided.
Several people are being treated for minor injuries.
Southern Vectis buses are delayed as a result of the incident and motorists are advised to avoid the area, diverting via Shanklin and Ventnor.
UPDATE @ 14:30 – The National Police Service helicopter from Bournemouth is now in attendance in the skies above Wroxall, thought to be searching for the driver of the Citroen.
The chopper is conducting a search over woodland and open areas surrounding the crash scene with the assistance of a local dog unit on the ground.
Island Echo understands the Saxo was travelling towards Whitley Bank when it crashed into the rear of the Honda Civic, which was parked at the time.
Recovery of the vehicles has been arranged.
UPDATE @ 15:00 – St John’s Road – the main road through Wroxall – has now reopened in both directions.
The Citroen has been recovered by Stag Lane Motors, however the Honda remains in-situ.
The NPAS helicopter has now left the area, however enquiries are ongoing. The driver has not been traced.
