MOTORCYCLIST SUFFERS SERIOUS INJURIES IN CRASH BETWEEN NEWPORT AND COWES

A road traffic collision on the main Newport to Cowes road is adding to travel chaos in the area this afternoon (Wednesday). Police and paramedics are currently on scene at where Cowes Road becomes Newport Road, near the County Showground on the A3020. Island Echo understands a motorcycle and a car have been involved in the smash, which occurred shortly before 16:00. Traffic is already heavy in the area due to the erection of temporary traffic lights on Parkhurst Road/Horsebridge Hill, near the prisons. This has seen traffic backing up to Northwood near Cowes. Works are being carried out in this location by Openreach and are set to continue until the end of the week. UPDATE @ 17:00 – It has been confirmed that a motorcyclist – a man in his 60s and from East Cowes – has sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries in the crash. Emergency services were called to reports of a crash between a Suzuki Swift and a motorcyclist at 15:38.
