Yokogawa Marex attended the Isle of Wight College’s Digital Open Day last Saturday (29th January) to give students the opportunity to explore the world of work and gain insight into local careers within the digital industry.
Representing Yokogawa Marex was Andrea Howells (Software QA Manager), Jason Vallance (Software Engineer) and Isaac Brading-Cornish (Software Test Engineer). They were on hand to showcase what the company has to offer and answer any questions inspiring students had.
Roland White, Assistant Principal at the Isle of Wight College has said:
“The college were delighted that staff from Yokogawa Marex were able to join us at our open day last Saturday to help raise awareness of careers available locally in digital industries and software engineering.
“This sector of the economy is fast growing and is an exciting place to work. The open day gave visitors the opportunity to talk to employers about careers in this area, and we were especially keen to encourage women to consider working in digital industries, so it was great to have a female member of staff from Yokogawa Marex join us.
“The college is committed to continuing to develop its course offer in digital and computing and in 2023 will be launching a new higher technical qualification in software engineering.”
Yokogawa Marex actively invests in local talent, encouraging students to pursue their interest in technology and software development by offering unique work experience opportunities which can lead to permanent job roles. Both Jason and Isaac have benefited first-hand being former Isle of Wight College students, now developing and testing solutions for major customers globally.

I don’t think people realise how advanced and large the software industry is on the island. There is a perfect opportunity to create a university here specialising in software development and engineering.
That’s really the beauty of IT – location doesn’t matter. You can sit in a lonely lighthouse far away from civilization and as long as you have good enough broadband, earn very good money.
