The Isle of Wight Council have confirmed that you won’t be seeing the Cowes floating bridge back in action until next Tuesday.
The scheduled maintenance works are now complete and it was due to return to service tomorrow (Friday). However, whilst undergoing tests prior to returning to service, an intermittent fault with the prow hydraulics was identified.
Contractors will be working on this over the coming days.
In the interests of the safety of users and staff the vessel will remain out of service with an expected return to service at 05:00 on Tuesday 28th July.
The launch service for foot passengers will continue to operate from 05:00-23:00 (06:30-23:00 Sundays).

In the interest of the safety …….. Bollocks !! Get on with it.
About time a bridge replaced this useless and costly shabby service sell the floating bridge to pay for bridge
nobody seems to know the total cost so far it must close to 10million if not over
We have the absolute shambles of the road works at St Mary’s causing traffic chaos added to by this ridiculous situation with the floating bridge and the Island rammed with visitors best lock Cowes down as its nearly impossible to get out of it
Given your description of the situation it seems that they’ve already done a pretty good job of locking down Cowes.
normal service resumed after lockdown
A marvel to behold, we are so fortunate to have this wonder of modern technology acting as a vital connection between the two parts of the same town. I wish there were some kind of affordable unlimited travel scheme so I could while away my mornings, days and late, late into the evenings aboard its splendour ecstatic in awe at its magnificence. Not going to fucking happen is it.
Why have heads, including the top one’s, in County Hall not rolled? Why are we forced to pay for these people? Be gone, NOW. Why are we being forced to pay their ridiculous salaries?
I think the council and island roads need a bloody good shake up
And out of service by Saturday
