A senior Isle of Wight Councillor will be heading out to Moldova to see the work volunteers are doing to support Ukrainian refugees.
East Cowes Town Councillor and Isle of Wight Council cabinet member for adult social care, Councillor Karl Love, will be joining MAD-Aid volunteers next week in Riscani, Moldova.
On the Island, MAD-Aid, its staff and volunteers have been spearheading Islanders’ efforts to support those fleeing Ukraine, taking in donations, sorting them out and them driving them to Moldova where they are then handed out.
Based in East Cowes, the charity has now collected and shipped enough locally-collected aid to fill ten articulated lorries.
Now, Cllr Love, who has helped support efforts in his ward, will be travelling overseas to see the aid collected on the Island distributed out around the city. While on his 5-day trip, Cllr Love will then be meeting local volunteers and dignitaries, with guide Victoria Dunford, founder and CEO of MAD-Aid.
Speaking ahead of his overseas trip, Cllr Love has said:
“It’s a great honour to be invited and I will be rolling my sleeves up and getting stuck in and helping wherever I can.
“Our Island has now started to receive refugees through the sponsorship scheme and we anticipate many more will arrive soon. I cannot imagine what it must feel like to loose all that one has spent a lifetime creating.
“The work of MAD-Aid has been invaluable and an important lifeline for many during this conflict. It is a humanitarian crisis and I can feel the support of Island people everywhere I travel for the Ukraine people.
“I hope my visit will offer support and encouragement to the volunteers and demonstrate how this aid has been distributed.”
nice little holiday for them i bet it being paid for by the tax payer YOU DONT NEED TO GO WE KNOW HOW ITS GOING
we are all cutting back why are we sending coucellors out for a 5 day holliday on tax payers money surly the public should have a right to vote just how to send out councellors on holidays.
How much is that going to cost us ?
hope you are funding this trip from your own pocket and not ours, Karl
and more to the point, whilst you are holidaying in Moldova, are you taking unpaid leave. After all, us council tax payers are paying you to be here, working for us, not jollying it up elsewhere, under the guise of charity work
I have several large boxes of unsold school uniform for secondary schools that I would like to give to your Ukrainian help.
How do I get them to you?
I assume we will be funding this virtue signalling jolly?
Just let the people there get on with the work, they don’t need a greedy councillor there to invite the hard workers there for a photo. Freedom of Information request please to see how much this is costing the taxpayer. Oh and did he travel with any aid, I doubt it.
” I hope that my visit will offer support and encouragement to the volunteers and demonstrate how this aid is distributed “.
Really ?
WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE EXACTLY ?
Harry n Smeg ?
Duke of York ?
And there’s silly old me, thinking that the Royals were at last, trying to get rid of the rotten old wood and slimline the family.
