Plans for the development of land off Racecourse near Newport have been submitted to the Isle of Wight Council this week, giving islanders a further glimpse at how Newport IW FC’s new football ground could look.
The site is currently an empty field which is used for car parking during the Isle of Wight Festival, but South Coast Leisure Ltd. want to build a brand new football pitch and associated club house, access and other facilities.
It is proposed the site will cover 4.3 hectares with room for 80 cars and 2 buses. Parking for the festival will be retained either side.
The new ground will be constructed to meet the Football Association’s Category D ground grading – higher than the current club’s requirements of an F grading. This will enable Newport FC to play up to Step 4 level of the National League System which is Southern Football League Division 1.
