The Isle of Wight Council continues to make energy rebate payments to eligible households across the Island, with more than £8.3million paid out to date.
Applications for the main government scheme closed on 30th September 2022 and the Council is completing the final stages of work to resolve any outstanding queries.
Island residents have so far received a total of £8,322,450 through the scheme to assist with energy bills.
The local authority was also given government funding for discretionary pay-outs to assist those not eligible for an energy rebate under the main scheme. This is for households in council tax bands E-H in receipt of local council tax support, housing benefit or universal credit.
The first phase of this discretionary scheme also closed on 30th September 2022 and final payments are currently being made. So far, £41,550 has been paid out to eligible residents.
The Isle of Wight Council is set to launch a 2nd phase of the discretionary scheme which will see a further payment of £28.50 issued to households in any property band who were in receipt of Local Council Tax Support as of 2nd September 2022. This payment will be made automatically before the scheme ends on 30th November 2022 and will be paid via the same method as their previous £150 payment.
The Council will write to eligible residents to advise them of when the payment has been made to them.

Same old story sit on ya ass do nothing couple of kids single parented be a total drain on society and you get everything
Wow !!!! That’s rude and ignorant….
Didn’t you get £150 off Council tax
Every household is getting the help whether getting substance or not
No its discretionary therefore not all get this!
You obviously didn’t take advantage of the free education in this country.
My six year old has better grammar and spelling.
Amazing how all these truth speaking comments are getting down voted by all the dross on her lol.
Before any more of OUR money is paid to freeloading benefit receiving beings, their TOTAL necessary expenditure as well as their TOTAL income should be made public as it is our money.
So we ought to know how much they PAY in rent and council tax AFTER subsidies.
We ought to be told of their FULL income incl child allowance, child &wkg tax credits, or now Universal credit, disability benefits, free school meals, uniforms transportation, dental and prescription free care
As I am willing to bet a vast amount have more disposable income than many workers now. And they don’t have to work a full week either.
Google it like normal people do
The problem with a welfare state is that there will always be people who abuse the system.
But for every one person who abuses it there will be a thousand people who need that safety net and has contributed through tax and national insurance.
Clamp down on benefit fraud.
Think your 1 to 1000 ratio is rather extreme. My personal experience over many years in several different parts of the country is rather the opposite. Very few need the safety net – for many it is irresponsible behaviour and lifestyle choice. Fact.
Two questions one did you receive and accept the £150 from the government to help towards paying your council tax bill ? And two are you receiving and accepting the £66 a month from the government to help towards paying your energy bills? If the answer to one or both of these questions is yes then this would make you an effing hypocrite.
So those who only pay 35% of the council tax, get ever more money. Then this council, will increase our burden so they pay even less. Career advice for youngsters, join this lot don’t contribute, just sponge.
Many of these spongers CLAIM to be living alone, yet never sleep alone.
This move then ups the single parent element of benefits which is much higher, AND they then only need work 16 hours a week to be able to claim everything going.
Also it means that as a ‘poor single ‘struggling’ Muver, they are prioritised for the newest best housing, seen as ‘victims’ by the pathetic society we now live in.
Yet so many are just not declaring the father or live in lover and milking the system.
Many do cash in hand jobs, nails, hair, or for employers, and many have tents in lofts, garages basements for growing to up their income to even higher levels.
The single element of benefits needs scrapping to end the child providing a lifestyle.
Two tier system, what a nanny state the next thing they will be employing cleaners for those on benefits. Also while shopping noticed somebody paying with a £125 voucher given to pensioners who get council tax reduction.
All these benefits are unsustainable.
This is smoke and mirrors –
the reason the government are about to cut spending and raise taxes, isn’t the reasons that they have been peddling about costs, truss and kwarteng etc – it is to do with the £50 billion loss they are scheduled to make selling back the assets that they bought up during the Quantitative easing years.
secondly – the green agenda to get people onto renewables etc, requires oil and gas to be as expensive or more expensive than renewables. Historically oil and gas have always been far cheaper and you will never sell the renewable idea to the masses if it costs more. As there was no chance, whatsoever of getting green energy below the cost of oil/gas – then oil/gas had to rise.
for oil and gas to rise enough, a crisis or situation was needed – russia going into ukraine was just that timely crisis that was not allowed to go to waste. The only objective to sanctions was to force the price of fossil fuels up, so that it matches the renewable costs.
you will note that charging an electric car has risen to 18p per mile – which, after the oil/gas price rises, feeding through to the refined petrol prices are now 19p for petrol cars, per mile. So there is near parity. You do see what is happening don’t you – make renewables the same price as fossil fuel and the cost argument vanishes.
high energy costs are here to stay and free money for citizens energy bills is about to end.
Good post, only the last para needs attention. Re …free money for citizens is about to end, should have but not for the workshy, child tax credit spongers using a child to be able to claim far far more than working people even IF the workers have higher outgoings and lower incomes.
Those dingy dwellers DON’T come because of the weather here
thanks ivy – fair point re free cash
those dinghy people know that in their own countries there are no welfare handouts and they either work or starve – so they come here and get handouts – perhaps if the government had the backbone and said – no free money or free accommodation whatsoever for immigrants, then they wouldn’t show up –
Two things, one its not the isle of wight money, they were given it by central government, not exactly benefits but I know several retired couples on the island who do not need their old age pension plus winter fuel allowance, both have written to the respective government department asking for it to stop, both received a reply that there was no facility available to stop it, please donate to charity, I am sure there are thousands of pensioners in a similar situation nationally.
Constantly giving handouts,is why we are in this situation!!!!!
Those of us that work are penalised, and those that freeload are rewarded !!!!!
I know several people who work minimum hrs so as not 2 lose their universal credit, low council tax, help with rent etc etc….
What happened to cut you’re coat according to your cloth ???
What happened to pride ???
Well the government gave them 2 much , and we pay for them….
Totally ridiculous !!!!!but when I see some with over £600
Plus per month better off than those working , I am annoyed/ angry …..mmm.
Many so called single mothers who claim and work min hours still work more than they say for cash, in jobs doing hair, nails, and massages etc where cash is paid, so many are even better off that you assume. I know that for a fact.
