The Isle of Wight Council has confirmed that the Cowes Floating Bridge will be suspended during periods of low tide, for 2 hours immediately before each low tide throughout June.
As reported by Island Echo yesterday (Tuesday), the brand new multi-million pound vessel is constantly running aground at low tide and therefore the decision has been taken to suspend the service when the tide drops.
A passenger launch across the River Medina will be in place during the 2-hour suspension each day, however the floating bridge will offer a full vehicle and passenger service at other times, as per the published timetable.
Until 2nd July, pedestrians and vehicles alike are not required to pay for using the floating bridge with all charges scrapped as a gesture of goodwill.
