Ventnor 1st XI have ended a disappointing season with an 85-run defeat at Rowledge.
Rowledge won the toss and elected to bat. The mainland side began their innings poorly reaching a total of 96-5. However, a 6th wicket partnership of 112 between Connor Cook and Ollie Ryman, followed by a 7th wicket partnership of 108 between Ollie and William Ryman, saw Rowledge make a formidable total of 317 for the loss of 7 wickets in their 50 overs.
Charlie Calloway was the pick of the Ventnor bowlers, taking 4 wickets for 53 runs in 7 overs; Hugh Calloway (2-48) took a brace with Rob Snell (1-41) taking the remaining wicket.
In reply, Ventnor were skittled out for 232 in the 45th over. The South Wight side began brightly with openers Henry Bartlett (63) and Dineth Thimodya (50) putting on 106 runs for the 1st wicket before Thimodya was run out after completing his half-century. Tom Friend (31) and Martin Blackman (27 not out) were the only 2 batsmen to offer serious resistance in the remainder of the innings.

Ventnor’s defeat means they have ended the season 3rd-from-bottom in Southern Premier Division 1 with a points average of 12, just 0.47 ahead of Hambledon in the drop zone.
