Ventnor Cricket Club’s first and second team league matches both survived the weather at the weekend, but ended in comprehensive defeats.
The British Gas Southern League Premier Division clash at New Milton was rain delayed, and in a reduced 93 overs match, the home side reached 199-7 from their 49 overs, Toby Corbin (3-28) and Dan Cox (2-29) the pick of the bowlers after the hosts had begun with a 75 run opening partnership.
The visitors reply was best forgotten, only Aussie Alex Glendenning with 36 making a contribution in a meagre all out total of 54.
The Islanders remain rooted to the bottom of the table ahead of Saturday’s visit to Newclose by Hampshire Academy, who are one place better off. The match starts at 11:30.
The second team lost by 9 wickets to Purbrook in Hampshire League Division 1 at Steephill.
Batting first, the home side totalled 160 with Hugh Calloway (39) and young Ben Attrill top scoring.
A rain interruption meant Purbrook needed to score 142 for victory, a target the visitors polished off inside 24 overs.
The side travel to Hook & Newnham II on Saturday.
The third team’s match at Riverside in Hampshire League Regional Division 3 South was washed out before 15:00 after the home team had reached 12 for the loss of 2 wickets.
