Despite a number of Isle of Wight table tennis matches being postponed this week, the 2 that were played were highly competitive.
Wroxall A met Newport Vics B, with Para Champion Tom Johnson in fine form winning all his games in style.
With Newport’s Dave Newnham and Rob Warren winning 2 games each, and Barry Joyce winning 1, the match was decided on the doubles. Wroxall’s Johnson teamed up with Carl Rye to take a decisive 3 set win and the match ended in a draw.
Meanwhile, Ryde A met Ryde Royals in an equally close match with some top Island talent on display. The Royal’s Hugh Idle kept his 100% record despite the A team’s Mark Turner taking him to five sets. Idle’s teammates Ricky Lock and Conal Howells could not gain a victory, although they had some close games against Lee Orton, Rob Smith and Turner.
Despite an easy doubles win for the Royals, the A team won 6-4.
