Coastguard Rescue Teams from Bembridge, Ventnor and The Needles will be providing Mutual Aid support to Hampshire Constabulary this weekend to help enforce the Government’s lockdown restrictions.
Islanders can expect to see Her Majesty’s Coastguard patrolling coastal areas around the Isle of Wight today (Saturday) and again tomorrow.
The Mutual Aid scheme is normally utilised during adverse weather, such as snow. However, during this time of crisis the Coastguard are being requested to carry out high visibility patrols to ensure members of the public are following the rules in place.
Whilst daily exercise is permitted, Islanders should only be leaving their homes for essential purposes. This does not include meeting with others at, for example, the beach or participating in watersports.

Well it saves being stuck at home on lockdown doesn’t it when you can go for a nice coastal drive free from scrutiny.
I trust they will be adopting the National Police Chief’s Council and College of Policing’s recently published guidance on how to patrol sensibly whilst taking in the scenery?
High Visibilty Patrols? Sounds a bit more like intimidation doesn’t it?
With the amount of traffic and people about today it’s like a normal day out there anyway ,, personally I think the lockdown is wearing thin ,wrongly .
the measures to combat the virus will probably kill more people than the virus kills ..
What is the problem? If people were sensible and thought of others just for once it wouldn’t be necessary to use these guys for extra patrols. I don’t care if you catch the virus but I do care about it spreading to others which can easily happen
What, down on the beach ?
– spread by the seagulls perhaps.
Fair enough so long as they are not heavy handed which will just succeed in putting peoples backs up.
Do your real job of catching those who should not be in our country, not those residents walking in the open air enjoying what could well be their last Spring.
“Our Country” is turning into a Police State anyway. – Have heard of so many ordinary citizens being bullied and intimidated by heavy handed police, including my elderly neighbours.
Has already done so, spoiling their visit and chasing them back to narrow pavements and passageways in town.
it is distancing that is most important some people are more at risk at home because they have high density housing but those in authority do not see things on each individual merit they just hire dogs to bark for them and make a show that they know what they are doing… I think everyone should wear masks to talk to others but the reason the authorities do not want to implement this is that they would have to be seen to do so also .. but they probably do not want to face their own breath.. contaminants carry more than 2 metres via the breath and the time when contaminants spread the most is by talking…..
Do as you’re asked & stay at home, unlike some idiots & there would be no requirement for the patrols…quite simple really…It is not difficult to follow simple requests but obviously some people are having trouble with this!

Not everyone has a spacious house and garden to move about in and exercise. Many live in small sunless flats, going out is essential for their health and morale .
Be more understanding.
people are supposed to stay in at their first residence, if the authorities want easy meat then there are plenty staying in their holiday shacks along the sea front, why not tackle those ???? is Boris staying at his first residence ?
