UPDATED: Coastguard Rescue Teams are tonight (Sunday) carrying out a search of the cliff edge at St Catherine’s Point, Niton.
Teams from The Needles and Ventnor are conducting a search of the South Wight area after a member of the public raised concerns.
A local female is believed to have been out walking in the area when she discovered cause for concern, prompting a response from HM Coastguard.
UPDATE @ 22:00 – A total of 9 men from the Island have been led to safety by Coastguard officers tonight.
It is thought the all-male group got into difficulty on the cliff whilst out enjoying the evening sunshine near Blackgang.
HM Coastguard were alerted to the incident via 999 at around 19:30.
No one has been injured.
The incident has now been brought to a close and Coastguard teams have returned to station.
