UPDATED: Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team have led a man and his dog to safety from Sir Richard’s Cove at St Lawrence this evening (Thursday) with the assistance of Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat.
Solent Coastguard tasked the rescue teams at around 17:00 to rush to the aid of a man reported to be on the rocks in a remote area between Steephill Cove and Woody Bay.
Coastguard Rescue officers proceeded to the area before walking along the cliff path and down onto the rocky terrain below, whilst the Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat rushed down the coast before placing a lifeboat crewman ashore with the gentleman and man’s best friend.
The decision was made to lead the man – who is thought to have hearing difficulties – and his dog along the shore to Orchard Bay, where the Coastguard are ensuring both are well.
Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat have been stood down from the incident and are now returning from their second shout of the week and the second of 2016. The crew were tasked yesterday to an empty kayak in the same area.
UPDATE @ 19:20 – Emergency services have now stood down from the incident.
The man, who is thought to be from Nottinghamshire, and his chocolate Labrador have been uninjured in the incident.
