UPDATED: A joint operation to airlift a woman from a remote spot in the West Wight involving The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team, Coastguard Rescue helicopter 175 and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service is underway this afternoon (Sunday). 

A 60-year-old female has fallen and damaged her shoulder on part of the Tennyson Trail at Mottistone, prompting a response from paramedics and Coastguard officers.

The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were initially called at 12:36.

The new Coastguard Rescue helicopter from Lee-on-Solent is on scene and is working with crews on the ground to airlift the woman to safety.

The casualty is to be flown to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport, where Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team are on scene to meet the inbound chopper.

UPDATE @ 15:40 – The injured female has been successfully airlifted from Mottistone Down to St Mary’s Hospital, where she has been transferred into the care of doctors.

HM Coastguard are now standing down from the incident.
