SOLENT Coastguard rescue teams from Bembridge and Ventnor are currently conducting a search of the Silver Sands area of Bembridge for a person trapped in the mud.
The Harbour Master for Bembridge received a distress call from a yacht on Marine Channel 80 shortly after 14:00 reporting that a unknown person was stuck in the mud or stuck under a boat by the entrance to Bembridge Harbour.
Rescue teams are on scene however initial searches have drawn a blank. The search continues along the coastline.
Bembridge RNLI have launched their inshore rescue lifeboat and have joined the search.
UPDATE @ 15:25 – The search at Silver Sands, Bembridge has been called off. The shout has been classed as a false alarm with good intent.
Solent Coastguard urge anyone who reports an incident but then later realises it was a genuine mistake to not be embarrassed and to alert the Coastguard of the mistake.
