Coastguard, firefighters and paramedics have been called to St Helens this afternoon (Saturday) to rescue several people stuck in the mud. Initial concerns were raised for the welfare of an individual near Nodes Point at around 11:30 this morning prompting the launch of 2 of Bembridge RNLI’s Lifeboats. Island Echo understands that the casualties has become stuck in the same location as previous mud rescues in the area last weekend. Since the initial call came in, the operation has been scaled up with HM Coastguard crews from Bembridge and Ventnor called to the scene to assist in the efforts as well as several pumping appliances – including the rescue tender – from Newport and Ryde.
Resources from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service – including an Operational Commander -have been called to the scene as have St John’s Ambulance. All present emergency service personnel have set up a rendezvous point at The Duver Car Park, which is now much busier than usual. Bembridge RNLI’s smaller Y-boat has been launched to transfer coastguard officers – who have equipped all their mud rescue gear – to the scene of the incident up the coast, as a result of incoming tide.
The all-weather lifeboat is keeping an eye on proceedings from deeper waters out in Priory Bay. UPDATE @ 13:45 – The casualties – which Island Echo now understands include to be 2 people and a dog – have been freed from the ooze. UPDATE @ 15:00 – All emergency service personnel have now stood down from the incident.

Bill them? This is getting silly, now.
Said that last week and so they should. These appliances may have been needed in an emergency not an idiot.
Despite the warnings issued by the relevant authorities, people still do silly things requiring lots of people from several different authorities to rescue them. When will people learn?
Won’t these idiots ever learn
Yet again another over the top response from the fire service. Why does it take 3 fire engines 4 coast guard vehicles and 3 lifeboats to rescue 1 person from mud say there is 2 people per rescue unit that would be 20 people.
Was there a fire ????????????????
Do you think they all turn out just for their pleasure? Unless you know how much equipment is needed, or how a rescue is carried out, you shouldn’t really question them. Why don’t you go along next time and watch how they perform. I expect if you were in that situation you’d be very glad of all the resources used to rescue you from a horrible death.
My point is the RNLI and coast guard are more than capable of freeing someone stuck in some mud this is what they are trained to deal with. So why send out the fire service that is costing tax payers a lot of money. But if you have to send out the fire service just send 1 engine not 3. Go along and watch them perform? I can tell you now it doesn’t take 20 odd people 3 fire engines 4 coast guard vehicles 3 lifeboats to free 1 person trust me.
Why do coast guards not turn up to a house fire or car crash? After all the more the merrier
Because a boat is of no use on land, whereas a turntable ladder and air bags are of use in a difficult to reach muddy beach scenario?
Coast Guard don’t have boats that’s the RNLI
Not again! As some people seem incapable of using good old common sense, would it not be cheaper to erect warning signs rather than have to deploy expensive and valuable services on a regular basis?
Please take care our Coastguards do deserve a Easter brake with there family’s and not spend the rest of Easter cleaning the mud kit.
Martin Rayner B E M ex Coastguard
But its predominantly idiots you save so why the attitude? Its definitely not fishing boats being helped.
Its swimmers, yacht owners etc etc
I wouldn’t do the job under these conditions. If you do so, you cannot judge.
Because all lives are equal? Or is there some worthiness scale you’re using? Coast guards do so BECAUSE they don’t judge. The fact you do disqualifies you from the job automatically.
What tripe you post. Surely you would save your own child over a stranger if you had to make a choice? Then your parents, and partner (unless as I suspect you haven’t one) , then other family, friends etc.
So if the sea was filled with mixed faces surely preference would be given to those who seemed to be fellow countrymen, as for sure, you can bet IF the boot was on the other foot, that lot would.
Stop pretending to be so fair, so unbiased, so decent, when your sort have ruined society, not for a while but forever.
We’re not talking about me, we’re talking about service personnel. A coastguard would not prioritise someone from a fishing boat over a swimmer or a yacht owner or even an idiot, neither would he/she check their passport or nationality before attempting rescue. NO rescuers anywhere would.
MOST people are fair, unbiased and decent. It’s our ‘sort’ which shaped society and gave us things like rescue services. It’s called empathy. Try it. You might decide it’s far nicer to be nicer.
I would have little to no empathy for someone breaking into my house, OR my country.
Most people are ‘honest’ to themselves, and should a close crew member fall in, I am sure that his fellow crew members would rescue him or her before others.
We are human, not robots, despite the Gov attempting to brainwash everyone into ‘saying’ the right thing, it doesn’t stop people feeling and doing things in life which are more natural.
Being nice to someone will be at the cost of another.
Akin to clearing a forest, wildlife will suffer, but other wildlife will gain when grass and plants grow instead, or like planting a forest, some things will gain others loose.
There is NO advantage to the British to have never ending people arrive.
Well they won’t get a break in the English channel….
How thick are these people that they walk into mud and get stuck? Surely, anyone with an ounce of sense would think: “this is mud and not a suitable surface for walking on.because I might get stuck”.
Do people never learn!!
Don’t be such a stick in the mud, it is Easter.
I am going to see where the other idiot got stuck…
Yet how many warning signs have been posted on beaches and at seaside holiday camps? Has Seaview, Nettlestone or St Helens council placed any such warning signs?
Most people here are aware but many visitors and clearly many from cities and warmer climates may not have seen mud before.
What will it take , a death before the Council places a laminated sheet of paper warning of mud danger?
Useless lazy people. Likely put them up when the mud is solid or washed away
Lol x
Exactly
Could a warning sign not be erected, would be cheaper than all the overtime on a bank hol, for the emergency services only too keen to aid fools.
Even a home made bit of ply with MUD DANGER would do. Men in sheds could do it if not making stuff for themselves. They got enough cash in Covid for nowt.
Are these people mainlander retards
You must be taking the piss… again??? charge them for it this just cost thousands…
The time has come to let natural selection take its course.
Did the tea wagon turn up as well.
This is why old farts shouldn’t be allowed outside
Just curious, how old are you (your majesty. Lol)
Whaaat, seriously, not again.
Are they doing it on purpose.
The powers that be really need to erect warning signs now, this is just getting silly and causing our emergency services unnecessary and expensive call outs.
3 Fire Engines, is the snooker table being re-covered.
Lol
What a waste of time and money
Bill the Morons responsible
Is this the latest braindead tiktok craze for Island idiots?
How about handing out a few invoices to these numpties?
Golly Gosh, yet another one?? ,!!
How many more??
Why??
Such a waste of resources, is there no way that you can block this all off?
More idiots where do they come from don’t they look at the warnings
Stupid idiot he should be made to pay for the cost of the rescue
Maybe time to stop the coastguard as it seems they don’t do anything on their own! They need the fire service or RNLI , every time I see them they are just standing at the edge waiting for the other services to do the work!!! All getting paid from our taxpayers money!!! I fully support the lifeboats (as they are voluntary) my business donates to this as they actually work and do good, my taxes pay for the great fire service and paramedics but time to stop the blue overall brigade who just like to drive on blue lights and stand at the edge pretending to do good!
Idiots! All of them.
