CLIFF RESCUE AFTER WOMAN FALLS 60 METRES

Two of the Island’s Coastguard Rescue Teams responded to reports that a person had fallen down the cliff at Alum Bay yesterday morning (Sunday).

The Needles Coastguard, Ventnor Coastguard and the Freshwater Independent Lifeboat were tasked to Alum Bay shortly after 11:30 following a 999 call from a member of staff at The Needles Pleasure Park. The manager reported spotting a person down the cliff face beside the popular tourist attraction, according to Solent Coastguard.

A full cliff rescue operation was launched and a volunteer member of HM Coastguard was lowered some 60 metres down the cliff to rescue the woman, who was placed on a stretcher and recovered to the top before being transferred into the care of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
