The victim of a serious crash on Middle Road near Chessell has thanked those who responded to the emergency on Christmas Eve.
On 24th December 2019, Keith had just visited friends and was returning home to Freshwater when he was involved in a collision with a van.
Firefighters from Freshwater and Newport responded to the emergency, alongside paramedics the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and doctors on board the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.
Having spent many weeks in intensive care, Keith is now back on his feet at home and this week visited Freshwater Fire Station with a card and some sweets to say ‘thank you’.
Through their Facebook Page, Freshwater’s retained firefighters have said:
“We last saw Keith on Christmas Eve, while we were cutting him out of a car following a serious road traffic collision on the Middle Road.
“After being flown over to the mainland, and many weeks in intensive care, Keith is now home and doing well with his recovery.
“He stopped by today with his daughter to drop off a card and treats for the emergency services, and wanted to say thank you to everyone that was there at that terrible accident — for saving his life.”

Glad you’re feeling better.
A nice gesture to remember the fire service. Glad you are now well Keith and back at home.
