Detectives and forensic investigators descended on a house in Shanklin on Christmas Day following the unexpected death of an elderly woman.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service was called to a residential address on Victoria Avenue at just before 09:30 on Wednesday morning, where a woman in her 80s was discovered.
The circumstances of her death led to Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary being alerted and officers deployed, with the force maintaining a presence throughout Christmas Day.
Crime Scene Investigators were later tasked to carry out initial on scene examinations, with detectives from Newport CID also alerted.
Police have today (Friday) confirmed that the death of a woman in her 80s is being treated as unexpected, but not suspicious.
The woman’s next of kin have been notified and a file is being prepared for His Majesty’s Coroner.
