A car has left the road and smashed into the trees lining the carriageway on Beaper Shute between Ryde and Brading this morning (Wednesday).
According to eye witnesses, the male driver of the Honda Civic estate stumbled out of the crashed vehicle before leaving the scene on foot. The passenger side of the car has crumpled around a tree, however the driver’s side has escaped any serious impact damage.
Emergency services were called to the incident near to the junction with Harding Shute at around 01:30.
The National Police Air Service (NPAS) helicopter from Bournemouth is currently conducting an aerial search of the area in an attempt to locate the driver and to get an aerial perspective of the crash scene.
The road remains open, however.
