UPDATED: 3 children are being attended to by paramedics after being rescued at sea by Ryde Inshore Rescue this evening (Monday)
The boys are thought to have been spotted by Hovertravel staff as they called for help just north of Ryde Harbour, resulting in an immediate launch of Ryde Rescue 2 lifeboat.
The youngsters have escaped any serious injury but are being checked over by the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service after inhaling some sea water.
Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team (CRT) are also on scene at Ryde Harbour.
UPDATE @ 19:45 – Ryde Rescue 2 has now recovered to the lifeboat station at Appley, whilst Bembridge CRT work to reunite the youngsters with their parents with the assistance of Police.
UPDATE @ 21:50 – It has been confirmed that 1 of the casualties has been treated by paramedics for superficial cuts, whilst another has been checked over after swallowing a quantity of sea water. The third casualty has been given a clean bill of heath.
A spokesperson for Ryde Rescue has commented:
“A very lucky ending to what could of been a very different outcome”.
