CHILD HIT BY CAR ON SANDOWN’S BROADWAY

IMG_6259.JPGUPDATED: A child has been involved in a road traffic collision with a car on The Broadway, Sandown this morning (Monday).

Police from the Island’s Roads Policing Unit and a rapid response paramedic are currently attending the incident at the junction with Grove Road. Island Echo understands the child to be a young boy.

The Broadway has been partially closed by Police at the junction with Carter Street and Winchester Road.

UPDATE @ 09:55 – Paramedics have arrived on scene to treat the youngster, who has been placed on a spinal board. The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has been alerted to the incident.

The Black Skoda involved in the collision was being driven by a female.

UPDATE @ 10:06 – The young casualty, aged around 8-years-old, has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport by land ambulance after the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was stood down. The boy is not thought to have suffered any life-threatening injuries.

The Broadway has reopened in both directions.

This morning’s incident comes after two road traffic collisions involving children last week.
