Ventnor RFC’s traditional President’s XV v Chairman’s XV clash brought pre-season to a close at Watcombe Bottom on Saturday (20th September), with the Chairman’s side running out 43–12 winners.
In front of a lively crowd, it was James Morton’s Chairman’s XV — marshalled by skipper Joe Coghlan — who took control, their pace out wide proving decisive. Tries came from Ed Blake, Ben Souter, Tom Branagh, a brace from Tom Scadden, Coghlan himself, and Josh Braham. Tom Crews added four conversions.
The President’s XV, captained by Warren Riches, produced plenty of moments to cheer with Riches rolling back the years with trademark dummies and footwork. His side crossed through Jacob Jordan – who delivered an outstanding all-round performance – and Dan Lythgoe, with Riches adding a conversion.
