There were smiles, songs and heartfelt tributes at Vecta House Care Home in Newport yesterday (Wednesday) as resident Muriel celebrated her milestone 100th birthday surrounded by family, friends and staff.
The care home was filled with joy as Muriel enjoyed a day of luxury and laughter, beginning with a pampering session from the dedicated Vecta House team. Her hair and makeup were beautifully done ahead of an afternoon of celebrations in a room decorated with balloons, banners and homemade cakes prepared by the in-house chef.
The highlight of the day was a lively party featuring live musical entertainment from Si Wheeler, with residents, staff and visitors joining in to mark Muriel’s remarkable milestone.
A particularly touching moment came through a community card campaign launched by Vecta House Lifestyle Leader, Tanya Everson, who set out to collect 100 birthday cards to mark the occasion. The response from the Isle of Wight community was overwhelming, with more than 140 cards received from well-wishers across the country – and even as far away as Switzerland.
Among the many greetings was a special message from King Charles III, as well as cards from local postmen and women and staff at Card Factory.
Tanya Everson, Lifestyle Leader at Vecta House, has said:
“This was such a momentous day for Muriel. I thought it would be lovely to get her 100 cards and put a request out to the Isle of Wight community. The response has been overwhelming and incredibly heartwarming. We’d all like to say a huge thank you to everyone who made this possible and helped make Muriel’s 100th birthday so truly unforgettable.”
The celebrations at Vecta House showcased the generosity and kindness of the local community, ensuring Muriel’s 100th birthday was a day to remember for everyone involved.
