The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has landed in the middle of Ryde Cemetery this evening (Friday), as critical care medics tend to a seriously unwell patient in the town.
It was just before 17:55 that the helicopter touched down – for the first time ever – in the middle of the cemetery off West Street.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, supported by firefighters from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, are on scene at Hill Street. An ambulance, critical care paramedic, operational commander and fire engine are in attendance.
Flying medics have joined ongoing efforts to save an individual’s life, walking the short distance from the cemetery landing spot.
This evening’s mission is the second-ever for the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance from its new base at Southampton, which only went live earlier today.
UPDATE @ 18:45 – The air ambulance has now lifted from Ryde, returning to base in Southampton.
The incident has been stood down.
