Fire crews were called to a cell fire at HMP Isle of Wight earlier this morning (Monday) following a deliberate attempt to cause a blaze.
Two appliances from Newport Fire Station turned out to the incident at 05:10 following reports of a fire at the former Category A Parkhurst prison.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the cell block and used a hose reel to quickly extinguish the flames.
No one was injured in the incident and crews left the scene less than 30 minutes later.
