20 teams battled it out on the River Medina throughout the afternoon from the event base at Island Harbour, which hosted over 300 competitors and plenty of spectators who all enjoyed the brand new event under the glorious April sunshine.

In total over £60,000 has been raised by the event, which will help support seriously ill children and their families.

“WellChild is a charity we feel passionate about and are committed to raising awareness and as much money as possible for them before and during this year’s Festival.  The Isle of Wight Festival and WellChild together are committed to creating lasting memories and The St George’s Day Dragon Boat Race is a great first initiative to do exactly that”.

It is now hoped the Dragon Boat Race will become an annual event on the Medina, just a stones throw from the Isle of Wight Festival site.
