Police have launched an investigation after thousands of pounds worth of tools were stolen from a van in Newport overnight, with other vehicles also ransacked.
A number of parked cars and vans in the vicinity of Chichester Walk, off Furrlongs on Pan Estate, were targeted during the early hours of this morning (Tuesday).
Island Echo understands that unknown individuals accessed the vehicles before searching through bags, gloveboxes and boots.
2 males were caught on CCTV running away from the scene at around 01:10. It is thought they then made good their escape in a car parked on Furrlongs.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary says enquiries are ongoing.

Why say you’ve got the cctv and then not upload it. How are the public supposed to help?? The police in the uk, really are the most stupid.
Im waiting for the CCTV footage to be passed to me today and then I can forward to the police
Scumbags!
Perhaps our local police could use some common sense and publish the videos today as opposed to three months down the line when most of the electrical items have been disposed of.
It will be at least Christmas before we might get to see the cctv by which time the stolen goods will have been sold on by the scumbags.
Time for islandwide CCTV, too many numpties
touch what isn’t theirs.
There is a need for vehicle garages / compounds for
van owners to leave their vehicles parked up at night.
Obviously it will come at a cost, but well worth it.
All crime is vile but these scum have deprived a tradesman of their livelihood
Hope they get caught. Trouble is there is no deterrent these days
