UPDATED: 34-year-old Jamie Clarke from Carisbrooke is to appear in court today (Wednesday) after the mugging of an elderly pensioner in Ventnor on Friday.
As first reported by Island Echo, a man in his 80s had his pension money stolen from outside the Tesco Express store in Ventnor High Street on Friday morning.
Mr Clarke, of Carisbrooke High Street, was arrested by Police on suspicion of robbery on Monday night and has since been charged. He will now appear in front of the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court in Newport.
The elderly victim, who has received the support of the local and wider community, is thought to be doing well following the incident.
UPDATE: Clarke did not enter a plea at today’s hearing and has been remanded in custody for the trial, which will begin on Friday 3rd June at the Isle of Wight Crown Court, Newport.
