UPDATED: A car has come to rest on its side following a collision with a van on Smallbrook Lane in Ryde this morning (Friday).
The blue Vaxuhall Vectra has suffered substantial damage after colliding into the rear of a silver Renault Traffic van, which is said to have come to a near stop all of a sudden on the 40mph road.
No serious injuries have been sustained, however the road is closed in both directions to allow for the recovery of the two vehicles.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have checked out the occupants of the car and van, who have escaped injury.
UPDATE: The road reopened shortly before 09:30.
